PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress KNEE characteristics to avoid deteriorating the image quality in a solid-state image pickup device with a well layer for forming overflow barriers in the depths of photosensors. SOLUTION: Channel stoppers 120 are formed at depth with fixed spaces formed with a p-type well layer from the surface of a semiconductor substrate 10, thereby forming routes B for flowing a part of overflow currents in the well layer to a ground GND from the surface of the substrate 10. The channel stoppers 120 suppress the KNEE characteristics, due to excessive holes passing through routes B and avoid image quality deterioration, since holes passing through the routes B of the well layer partly branch at the stoppers 120 and turn into routes C and converge with routes A.
