PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read an image with high quality using a simple configuration, without increasing cost. SOLUTION: An image processing section 20 consists of an averaging circuit 21 and a memory 22 that stores pixel data. The memory 22 is a memory that stores pixel data converted from analog data into digital data, and the averaging circuit 21 is a circuit that applies averaging processing to two adjacent pixels for each line stored in the memory 22. The pixel data converted into digital data are stored in the memory 22, and averaging processing is applied to the two adjacent pixels in the main scanning direction, on the basis of the pixel data read by a 1st photoelectric conversion element array and the pixel data read by a 2nd photoelectric transfer element array. Thus, the noise component can be reduced and S/N ratio can be enhanced. Thus, image quality can be improved, using a simple configuration.
