PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a handrail belt to stably travel in a main conveyor comprising a handrail belt made to travel by the frictional force by the rotation of a drive wheel by providing a tension regulating mechanism for elastically energizing the longitudinal middle of the handrail belt in the direction substantially right-angled to the longitudinal direction by the energizing force of an elastic member. SOLUTION: An endless handrail belt 11 is laid over a drive wheel 12 and a driven wheel 13 and made to endlessly travel by the friction force between the drive wheel 12 and the handrail belt 11. A tension regulating mechanism 14 is provided in the longitudinal middle of the handrail belt 11. The tension regulating mechanism 14 presses the longitudinal middle of the endlessly traveling handrail belt 11 in the direction substantially right-angled to the longitudinal direction of the handrail belt 11 by the energizing force of a spring 42 through each roller 17 of a presser 15, and tension is imparted to the handrail belt 11 by this pressing. According to this, a frictional force of sufficient and proper magnitude is generate between the handrail belt 11 and the drive wheel 12, and the handrail belt 11 is made to stably and smoothly travel by this frictional force.
