PURPOSE: A tuning apparatus is provided to make an oscillator be used commonly in an image recording and reproducing apparatus so, solving deterioration of signal characteristic. CONSTITUTION: A 3.58MHz frequency is used instead of a tuning oscillator of 4.0MHz and is 512-divided by a divider(200). The divided frequency is inputted to a phase comparator(40) together with a frequency that a 8-divided frequency of a voltage controlled oscillator(60) is varied by a frequency varying part(30). A compared value is converted to a voltage by an analog-to-digital converter(50), and the converted voltage is applied to the voltage controlled oscillator(60). A microcomputer(700) outputs control data for making a frequency be varied by a unit being eight times 512 division of 3.58MHz. The microcomputer(700) detects an auto frequency control signal of a corresponding channel of an intermediate frequency converter(90) to adjust the control data.
