PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To call the function of a server device from a client device without using dedicated software. SOLUTION: On the server side, an OPI demon 104 always monitors the inside of a folder (OPI configuration folder), namely, of an OPI directory 90 under management due to OPI. A user generates a folder 70A in a GUI environment and copies an authentication file 108 instructing management as an OPI folder 70 capable of utilizing the function of OPI in the folder 70A by mounting the filing system of the server from the side of a work station for editing and operating a mouse in the GUI environment or the like. Thus, on the server side, processing is executed by the OPI demon 104 for registering the folder 70A in an OPI database 68 and issuing a folder ID and the folder 70A is managed as the OPI folder 70.
