PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent forcible feed of at least a part of cooling water toward a discharge part of a water pump even if an engine rotationally drives an impeller of the water pump when the engine is cold. SOLUTION: In a cooling device for a water-cooled engine, rotational centrifugal force caused by rotation of an impeller 11 of a water pump 10 rotationally driven by the engine inside a pump chamber 13 force-feeds cooling water inside the pump chamber 13 toward a discharge part to circularly supply the cooling water to a water jacket of the engine. A pump housing 12 forming the pump chamber 13 is formed with a passage 12a communicating with an upper part of the pump chamber 13, while the passage 12a is connected with a supply/ discharge means 20 for a compressible fluid such as air.
