PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a railroad ballast replacement system which can efficiently and positively execute replacement work and can shorten working hours, while reducing the man-hour and the number of vehicles required for the ballast replacement works. SOLUTION: The ballast replacement system is comprised of a series of working trains 51 including hopper vehicles 53a to 53e in which is loaded with new ballast NB, and a ballast working vehicle 52 is equipped with a ballast scraper 56. The ballast working vehicle has discharging conveyors 57a, 57b for conveying scraped ballast B to the tail end hopper vehicle, and a charging conveyor 58 for charging the new ballast to an excavated area where the ballast has been scraped off. Each hopper vehicle has a first belt conveyor 61 for continuously conveying the ballast which has been transferred from the discharging conveyor, from the tail end carrying vehicle to the front end carrying vehicle, and second and third belt conveyor 62, 63 for conveying the new ballast to the charging conveyor.
