PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently acquire the information of a desired kind. SOLUTION: Plural kinds of information are stored in a descriptor structure on the information storage medium of a DSC 100. It is necessary for an IRD 200 to acquire information such as total number of objects, list of object ID and attributes of respective objects from the information storage medium of the DSC 100 for image display on a monitor 210. In order to acquire this information, the IRD 200 issues commands such as GET-NUM-OF-ENTRIES, LIST- ENTRY-ID and GET-INFO'-ELEMENTS to the DSC 100. The IRD 200 receives only the information required as a response from the DSC 100.
