PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an overcurrent control method which can avoid the misjudgement of a short circuit and detect a short circuit efficiently when the lamp load of a vehicle such as a tail lamp, etc., is replaced or turned on. SOLUTION: An overcurrent control method includes a step S1 in which a load current Is is detected, a step S2 in which the load current is monitored and compared with a reference current value, a step S4 in which one detection count is added if the load current is higher than the reference value, a step S5 in which it is decided whether one side lamp is in an open circuit state or not, a step S6 in which a rush current generating time t2 with an estimated rush current is added to a 1st abnormality detection time t1 obtained by the detection counts to calculate a 2nd abnormality detection time T, and a step S8 in which it is decided that a short circuit state exists if the counted time exceeds the 2nd abnormality detection time T.
