PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head which stabilizes the recording performance and improves the yield by thermally hardening liquid photoresist applied by spin coating, thereby, forming an upper insulating layer having a prescribed throat angle and a plane whose upper surface is flat and, thereon, forming an upper magnetic pole by plating and a manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A barrier member is formed with the distance, which is necessary and sufficient in order that a winding coil is insulated, so as to surround the outermost circumference of the winding coil, the liquid photoresist is applied on the winding coil by spin coating, the upper insulating layer is formed by thermally hardening the liquid photoresist layer, thereby, the upper magnetic pole which has the upper surface with excellent flatness and the prescribed throat angle is obtained on the upper insulating layer. In addition, highρmagnetic material is used as an upper recording yoke part constituting the upper magnetic pole, thereby, the eddy current loss can be reduced, the recording magnetic field can be made into high frequency, a high transferring rate can be realized and the recording density can be improved.
