PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recorder in which the quantity of light can be regulated through a simple arrangement when ink ejection state of a recording head is detected using a photointeractive sensor. SOLUTION: Ink is ejected from a recording head 1100 to intercept a light beam 7 emitted from a light emitting element 5 toward a light receiving element 6 and ink ejection state of the recording head 1100 is detected based on the quantity of light received by the light receiving element 6 when ink is ejected. The quantity of light received by the light receiving element 6 is regulated, independently of ink ejection, by turning the light receiving element 6 and a slit 9 made in the front face thereof.
