PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject control device capable of stabilizing halftone density. SOLUTION: A control device of the quantity of laser beam has a laser beam irradiation means for emitting laser beam to a photosensitive body, a pulse width modulating means inputting the quantity of laser beam to modulate pulse width on the basis of a multivalue image signal, an exposure quantity detecting means for detecting the exposure quantity of laser beam, and a control means for controlling emission intensity corresponding to the detected exposure quantity. The quantity of laser beam modulated in pulse width is detected to be controlled to desired quantity.
