PURPOSE: A damper clutch controller and method thereof precisely controls a damper clutch according to the running condition of a vehicle by varying the direct connecting area of the damper clutch. CONSTITUTION: A transmission control unit calculates a real gradient resistance from inputted detected information of a vehicle running state perceiving member. The transmission control unit enlarges or reduces a damper clutch direct connecting area by using the difference between the real gradient resistance and a reference gradient resistance. Thus, a precise control is implemented, thereby reducing vibrations and noises due to often on/off operations of the damper clutch on a gradient road.
