PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified regenerated cellulose fiber having sufficiently high strength durable to practical use without deteriorating the feeling and water-absorption property characteristic to regenerated cellulose fiber, having excellent dyeability and fastness with cationic dye and exhibiting excellent fastness even in the form of an extremely dark-colored product dyed to black color, deep blue color, etc. SOLUTION: The objective modified regenerated cellulose fiber contains an alkali-soluble and acid-insoluble formaldehyde condensation product composed of dihydroxydiphenylsulfone and a sulfonic acid salt of dihydroxydiphenylsulfone. The content of the condensation product is 2-20 wt.% based on the cellulose. The molar equivalent ratio of the dihydroxydiphenylsulfone to the sulfonic acid salt of dihydroxydiphenylsulfone in the condensation product is 1:(0.1-2).
