PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a frictional material for a brake, for preventing low frequency abnormal sound (hooting sound) from substantially being generated immediately before the stoppage of a vehicle, even if a rotor and a disc pad of the brake of the vehicle is wetted by the water. SOLUTION: This friction material for a brake is provided with a fiber base material, a friction-adjusting material, a binder, a water-repellent, and a surface active agent. Fluorine-based polymer such as polytetrafluoroethylene is preferable as the water-repellent, and a metallic soap and a fluorine-based surface active agent are preferable as the surface active agent.
