PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead acid batter having a rubber packing type sealing portion in a hollow and flat form, capable of preventing or inhibiting formation of nodule corrosive products without their infiltrating an electrolyte into the sealing portion. SOLUTION: By covering at least the portion making contact with a rubber packing on the surface of a columnar pole with an acid proof material, such as a paint mainly containing rubber, the sealing property of the lead acid battery is improved, as compared with the case of direct contact between the columnar pole formed of lead or lead alloy and the rubber packing, so that the infiltration of the electrolyte into the sealing portion is prevented, and the formation of nodule corrosive products are prevented or inhibited.
