PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the retrieval and distribution of portrait data. SOLUTION: A host computer extracts portrait data suited to retrieval conditions from a data base and transmits them to a personal computer(PC) by processing from a step S3 to a step S6. In a step S25, the PC reports the purchase of the usage right of desired portrait data to the host computer. In a step S8, the host computer presents various conditions to the PC. In a step S27, the PC reports agreement with the various conditions to the host computer. Thus, a contract is established. In a step S11, the host computer distributes the usage right of the portrait data to the PC.
