In order to test an acceleration sensor device, the temporal progression of a test output signal (A>1<, A>2<), with which the acceleration sensor device (2) replies to a test signal (P) set on the sensor (6) thereof, is compared to a set test output signal (S), with which the intact acceleration sensor device replies to the test signal. Malfunctions in the acceleration sensor device can be reliably identified by comparing the dynamic variations between the specified test output signal and the test output signal and by comparing their static maximum values.
