PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time from the supply of a cut sheet to the start of recording to the cut sheet and to also certainly prevent jamming when the cut sheet is a copy sheet. SOLUTION: A recording apparatus has a forward recording mode wherein a cut sheet K is supplied to the front of a printing main body 11 from a rear end 52 and recording is applied to the cut sheet during a period when the cut sheet is fed from the rear of the printer main body to the front thereof and a reversal recording mode wherein the cut sheet is supplied to the front of printer main body from a leading end 51 and recording is applied to the cut sheet during a period when the cut sheet is fed from the front of the printer main body to the rear thereof and, at the time of the reversal recording mode, the width of the cut sheet is detected by a first detector 45 prior to the recording to the cut sheet to determine a recording start position.
