PURPOSE: A system and a method for controlling the kick-down third to second shift of an automatic transmission are provided to prevent the generation of a shifting shock by inhibiting the finish of a duty control before a kick-down servo brake is controlled completely. CONSTITUTION: A transmission control unit decides if a speed range is changed from a third speed to a second speed(S110). If the speed range is changed, the change of the power state is decided(S140). If the power state is changed, a duty control value is decreased after a duty output of a section A is finished and controls a kick-down servo brake(S150,S151). If the kick-down servo brake is operated, the off state of a kick-down switch is decided(S160). If the kick-down switch is in off state, a duty control of a section B is finished, and a second duty control value is outputted to a drive unit. The transmission control unit corrects a duty gradient and outputs the corrected duty gradient to the drive unit to strongly control the kick-down servo brake. If second speed synchronization is completed, a duty is held to completely control the motion of the kick-down servo brake.
