PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent printing troubles of a printer by means of printing information by providing a printer body with the printing information for judging whether or not an ink cartridge is proper. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge 56 to be inserted to an ink cartridge slot 48 of this ink jet printer 2 stores ink inside and has a memory 58 with an ID(identification) information 30 set to a cover part. An ink cartridge table 28 is stored in a storage of a controller, in which the identification information of the ink cartridge 56 and its corresponding information of various kinds are described. An ink detection sensor 66 detects at least information on the presence/absence of ink inside the ink cartridge 56 set to the ink cartridge slot 48. A data read means 60 set to the ink cartridge slot 48 reads information of the memory 58 of the ink cartridge 56. The controller of the ink jet printer 2 judges with reference to the ink cartridge table 28 on the basis of the identification information of the ink cartridge 56 inserted to the ink cartridge slot 48 whether or not the ink cartridge 56 is proper. |
