PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing a silver halide photographic emulsion containing flat platy grains having high sensitivity, a high silver bromide content, a very small grain thickness and (111) faces as the principal planes. SOLUTION: In the silver halide photographic emulsion, grains which occupy >=50% of the total projected area of all silver halide grains (1) contain at least 70 mol% silver bromide, (2) are flat platy grains having (111) faces as the principal surfaces, (3) have <0.2μm grain thickness and (4) exhibit a pBr of 3.5-5.5 when a sensitizing dye is adsorbed.
