PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem where conventionally, fluorescent tubes of a light source have had to be increased in the number of increase contrast and brightness, resulting in cost increase or in power consumption, and flexible correspondence could not be made to usage environment. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal video display device 10 comprises a video signal processing circuit 12 for generating RGB signals by processing video signals, a liquid crystal display panel 13 for receiving the input of the RGB signals and displaying the video, and at least an ambient brightness detecting circuit 11 for detecting at least the ambient condition of the liquid crystal display panel 13, and is characterized in controlling the RGB signals, based on the ambient condition of the liquid crystal display panel 13.
