PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll setting method for an upper work roll in a roller leveler by which a material to be worked is leveled from the beginning of leveling start in a desired way. SOLUTION: The roll gap setting method comprises a step 1 to select material classification according to a material to be worked, a step 2 to select classification of a pattern of strain by working according to a dimension of the material to be worked in the selected material classification and a step 3 to obtain a roll gap of the upper work roll so as to obtain the strain by working given to the selected classification of the pattern of strain by working.
