PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce flutters of the bristle of a brush seal which is positioned near a stepped area of a rotor of a rotary machinery. SOLUTION: This rotary machinery 10 has a rotor 12 and a peripheral stator 14. The rotor has an outside surface 20 provided with a first section 22, having a radius larger than that of the upstream, a second section 24 having a radius smaller than that on the downstream, and a third section 26 having an area 28 facing a direction which is neither vertical or parallel with the axis of the rotor. For example, the area 28 includes a first projecting surface area 40 and a second recessed surface area 46. The machinery 10 has a first brush seal 16 provided with the bristle 34, having a free end 39 positioned near the second section, and the machinery is provide with the bristle 68 having a free end 37 positioned near the first section, and a front plate 64 can include a second brush seal 62 which has a shelf 74 projected in a direction for separating from the corresponding bristle.
