PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium carrying device capable of facilitating and ensuring the installation of a roller unit to a normally operable position in a paper feed part and significantly shortening the time required for the installation. SOLUTION: This recording medium carrying device comprises a pulling roller 2, a separating carrying roller 4, a retaining member 6, and a transmitting means 17, which are formed as an integrated unit. This device further comprises a projection part 6b arranged on the opposite end to the pulling roller 2 of the retaining member 6 to make contact with the inside of the upper wall surface of the paper feed part 19 and an opening part 19a bored in a part of the upper wall surface of the paper feed part 19, to which the projection part 6b is inserted by installing the unit in a normal position.
