PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake system which can assure a large braking force and an operation stroke and can also simplify the maintenance thereof. SOLUTION: As an actuator of the brake system, a linear actuator 2 is used. This linear actuator 2 is provided with a first member 10 and a second member 11 to form a movable member and also arranges in parallel a plurality of permanent magnets 12a to 12m at the external circumference of the first member 10 by respectively changing the polarity direction by 90 degrees. A viscous fluid 26 is sealed within the second member 11 for accommodating the first member 10 to freely move. Moreover, a plurality of electro-magnetic coils 13a to 13f are simultaneously provided to surround the external circumference of the permanent magnets 12a to 12m, and these coils are then magnetized to generate the same polarity at the opposing end surfaces of the adjacent coils. Moreover, a brake spring 14 is provided within the second member 11 and this brake spring 14 energizes the first and second members 10, 11 in the direction opposing to the moving direction when the power is supplied to place a nut 19 in contact with a stopper 30.
