SOLUTION: The monitoring system is provided with a recorder 11 that can record video data from a camera 1, a memory 10b, a recording area of video data of the recorder 11 is divided into a moving picture recording area 11 a and a still picture recording area 11b, the memory 10b temporarily stores video data from the camera 1 as moving picture data as required when a fault sensor 2 senses a fault state or the like, every time the moving picture data are stored by a prescribed amount, the moving picture recording area 11a of the recorder 11 records the moving picture data and the still picture recording area 11 b of the recorder 11 separately records even still picture data extracted corresponding to the moving picture data during the recording of the moving picture data.
