PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize antenna characteristics of antenna matching circuit even if the housing length of a folding type portable telephone set varies. SOLUTION: An opening/closure detecting circuit 29 sends a detection signal to a control part 33 according to the folding type portable telephone set 44 is folded or not. The antenna matching circuit 10 is so adjusted as to optimize the antenna characteristics of an antenna 23 when the folding type portable telephone set 40 is folded. The control part 33 operates an antenna characteristic switching circuit 41 when the folding type portable telephone set 40 is opened to switch the characteristics of the antenna matching circuit 10 and then optimizes the characteristics of the antenna matching circuit 10 and further the characteristics of the antenna 23 when the folding type portable telephone set 40 is opened.
