Piperazinedione compounds of the formula (I), wherein each of ---- and ----, independently, is a single bond or a double bond; A is H or CH(RR) when ---- is a single bond, or C(RR) when ---- is a double bond; Z is R3O-(Ar)-B, in which B is CH(R) when ---- is a single bond, or C(R) when ---- is a double bond; Ar is heteroaryl; and R3 is H, alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, C(O)R, C(O)OR, C(O)NRR, or SO2R, each of R1 and R2, independently, is H C(O)R, C(O)OR, C(O)NRR, or SO2R; and each of R, R, R, R, and R, independently, is H, alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, cyclyl, or heterocyclyl. Optionally, R and R taken together are cyclyl or heterocyclyl; and, also optionally, R1 and R or R1 and R taken together are cyclyl or heterocyclyl.
