PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an olefin polymerization catalyst which stably produce a polymer excellent in transparency, mechanical properties such as modulus or strengths, and blocking resistance and to provide a method for producing a polymer by using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization catalyst comprises the following components; [A] a compound containing a transition metal of any one of groups 4-6 in the periodic table and having at least one conjugated five-membered ring ligand and [B] a solid component containing at least one member selected from the components: (b-1) a microparticulate support carrying an aluminumoxy compound, (b-2) a microparticulate support carrying an ionic compound that actionize component A or carrying a Lewis acid, (b-3) a microparticulate solid acid, and (b-4) a layered silicate and satisfying the requirements: (i) the atoms of group 4 in the periodic table constitute at least 0.3 wt.% of the solid component, and (ii) the volume of pores with a diameter of 100-1,000Åis at most 0.3 ml/g, and the volume of pores with a diameter of 1,000-10,000Åis at most 0.2 ml/g.
