PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the position of a hologram with respect to an optical pickup housing quickly and precisely by previously providing a diffraction grating for positioning in the hologram of the optical pickup. SOLUTION: The housing 1 of the optical pickup is held on the reference surface of an assembling device. The hologram 2 in which a hologram pattern and the diffraction grating for positioning are formed is held on X, Y, Z stages 7a, 7b, 7c, and thus the adjustment of three axes are enabled with respect to the housing 1. Diffracted light beams 19, 19 which pass the diffraction grating for positioning and are diffracted in the different directions in adjustment reference light which passes the hologram 2 is received by photodetectors 10a, 10b mounted on a light receiving plate 9. The quantity of adjustment of X, Y andθstages 7a, 7b, 7c is calculated from an electric signal outputted from the photodetectors to move and regulate only the quantity of adjustment.
