PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing anα-fluoroether which is suitable for use in the production of a hydrofluorocarbon by a method not containing chlorine. SOLUTION: This method for producing theα-fluoroether, comprises reacting a non-enolated aldehyde with hydrogen fluoride to produce an intermediate and then reacting the intermediate with an alcohol or a halogenating agent. Newα-fluoroethers are also provided.
