PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyester for flame-retardant hot-melt adhesives which dissolves various problems of flame-retardant polyester adhesives, is particularly excellent in resistance to wet-heat and in adhesion to metals, and causes less load to the environment. SOLUTION: This polyester is a crystalline copolymeric polyester composed primarily of dicarboxylic acid components and 1,4-butanediol. The dicarboxylic acid components comprise 30-98.5 mol% of terephthalic acid, 0.5-25 mol% of a dimer acid, and 1-30 mol% of isophthalic acid and/or an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid based on the total acid components constituting the polyester. The polyester contains an organic phosphorus compound with two or more ester-forming functional groups in a phosphorus content of 500-50,000 ppm in the polyester, and has a melting point of 50-200 deg.C.
