PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone which can provide clear voice, both on the reception and transmission sides by drawing frequency characteristics which are natural to the loudspeaker and microphone close to ideal reception and transmission frequency characteristics. SOLUTION: A reception section is provided with digital filters 704, 708 for improving reception characteristics, and digital filter coefficient setting means 707, 706, 731, 733. Meanwhile, a transmission section is provided with digital filters 719, 720 for improving transmission characteristics, and digital filter coefficient setting means 707, 722, 732. Due to this structure, the difference between the frequency characteristic natural to the loudspeaker and an ideal reception frequency characteristic and a difference between frequency characteristic natural to a microphone and an ideal transmission frequency characteristic, are compensated to draw both the reception and transmission frequency characteristics close to the ideal frequency characteristics and thereby provide a clear voice both on the reception and transmission sides.
