PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a forming method and its forming device for curving the U-shaped curved part of a glass pipe, where the radius of curvature of the U-shaped curved part is different, by the same forming device. SOLUTION: The method and device for forming the glass pipe having the U-shaped curved part grasps the glass pipe 1 with a pair of separated chucks 29, heats and softens a prescribed area between the pair of these chucks and rotates the pair of the chucks in mutually opposite directions based on an involute curve created by winding a flat belt 25 on the circular-arc outer periphery of a circular plate 24, where at least a part of the outer periphery is in the state of a circular arc, thereby the prescribed area is curved in the U-shape.
