PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image managing device capable of reducing the operation work of a user in inputting an image and obtaining high productivity. SOLUTION: This image managing device is provided with a function that makes inputted image data correspond to already stored index data and automatically stores the image data. As the function, a character recognizing means 52 performs character recognition processing of the image data inputted from a scanner 7, a recorded document deciding means 53 retrieves index data coinciding completely with text data recognized with character recognition processing in an index recording part 22 through an index data recording part managing means 23 and a document list controlling means 30, and makes found index data correspond to the inputted image data, when the index data corresponding to the text data recognized with the character recognition processing is found.
