PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable seat width wheelchair in which the width of its seat can be continuously adjustable and set. SOLUTION: This variable seat width wheelchair is provided with a cross bar assembly composed of a pair of cross bars which are rotatably connected to a main frame by their lower sides. This wheelchair incorporates sliding guide members 28 and 28 which are installed to the cross-connecting section of the cross bars, upper and lower cross bar portions 4, 5, 6, and 7 which are guided by the members 28 and 28, a cam shaft which also works as the cross- rotating center shaft of the cross bars, and cam plates 8 and 9 which rotate integrally with the cam shaft and decides the advancing amounts of the cross bar portions 4, 5, 6, and 7. A transmitting and fixing means connects the cam plate 8 or 9 to the cross bar portions 4, 5, 6, and 7 and fixes a cam and the cross bars by transmitting the rotational amount of the cam plate 8 or 9 to the cross bar portions 4, 5, 6, and 7 and adjusting the transmitted rotational amount.
