PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for buffing a vulcanized tread member capable of suitably roughly cutting particularly the tread member with a wing by a buffing work of a small number of times without residue of buffing, and compacting the apparatus. SOLUTION: The method for buffing the vulcanized tread member comprises the step of roughly cutting a base surface of the vulcanized tread member 3 of a band-like state having a tread pattern. The method also comprises the steps of conveying the vulcanized tread member 3 with its base surface disposed upside, raising both sides 3a and 3a of the member 3 at a predetermined position on the way of conveying, pressing a rotating brush 30 over both the sides 3a and 3a at the same predetermined position, and buffing both the sides 3a and 3a. The apparatus for buffing the vulcanized tread member is provided.
