PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoxy resin containing phosphorus having a flame retardant phosphorus atom. SOLUTION: The epoxy resin containing phosphorus which includes a structural unit derived from a hydroquinone derivative containing phosphorus shown by the formula (I) is provided. (R1 and R2 show substitutable chain or branched chain alkyl groups, one or, two or more methylene groups in the alkyl groups are substitutable by -CH=CH-, each of them may be a same group or a different group, and R1 and R2 may form a cyclic product whether containing P or not. X shows an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom. Y or Z shows a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, a chain or branched chain alkyl group, an aralkyl group, an alkoxy group, an allyl group, an aryl group, or a cyano group. Y and Z may form cyclic products).
