PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shadow mask structure and a color picture tube from which worsening factors are removed without impairing weight reduction, in a tensioned shadow mask structure for laying a shadow mask on a mask frame with a tension imposed on the mask, wherein the mask frame is liable to deform in the case of a lightweight type, because its arm members for stretchingly holding the shadow mask have less rigidity in their middle portion, and the natural frequency of the shadow mask is lowered, vibration characteristics are worsened, and color slippage occurs when it is deformed. SOLUTION: The shadow mask 16 is tensioned in a tension system between a pair of first arm members 25 each having a circular cross section and standing opposite to each other. The shadow mask structure 18 comprises the arm members 25 and a pair of second arm members 26 each having a circular cross section and connected to the arm members 25. Surfaces of the arm members 25 to be welded to the shadow mask 16 are formed so as to present curved surface shapes at all times.
