PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the system efficiency, even when driving a rotating electric machine which has a stator having a concentrated wound coil and a rotor with buried permanent magnets, using a position sesorless inverter conducting at every 120 degree. SOLUTION: In an permanent magnet rotating electric machine, having a stator with a concentrated coil wound around plural teeth of the stator core and a rotor with rare earth permanent magnets retained in the slots on the core, the permanent magnets are disposed in a V or U shape against the rotating shaft and the ratio of the width W1 between the poles of the core to the gap between the stator and the rotor Xg is made 10.8<=W1/Xg<=13.2.
