PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin organic electroluminescent(EL) device having high reliability. SOLUTION: This organic EL device includes a first electrode formed on a substrate, a thin film layer formed on the first electrode and made of at least an organic compound, a second electrode formed on the thin film layer, and a sealing plate stuck to the substrate by an adhesive. The thickness from the outside face of the substrate to the outside face of the sealing plate is 2 mm or below, the thickness of the adhesive is 0.1 mm or below, and the change quantity of the thickness is 50μm or below in the organic EL device.
