PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a laser diode module which makes design and manufacture of the optical system easier and manufacturing cost lower and which can introduce even a laser beam of a high aspect ratio with a high coupling efficiency of 60% or greater into a single mode optical fiber. SOLUTION: An optical system (4) which expands the NFP of a laser diode (2) more than twice and less than 10 times is disposed along the optical axis (z) of a laser beam. A GI type optical fiber (5) having an elliptic core and a predetermined length in which the cross section is formed to be elliptical and the major and minor axes of the core are made to coincide with the x and y directions of NFP is disposed in an image forming position, and a single mode optical fiber (3) is connected to the light emitting end of the optical fiber.
