PURPOSE: A method is provided which controls cooling of a hot rolled strip using a middle thermometer in a cooling control model required for accurately applying a coiling temperature of the hot rolled strip. CONSTITUTION: In a method for controlling cooling of a hot rolled strip using a middle thermometer of a cooling system of the hot rolled strip in which a hot finish rolling mill, a run-out table and a coiler are sequentially arranged, an entrance side thermometer(FDT) is installed at rear of the hot finish rolling mill, an exit side thermometer(CT) is installed at front of a coiler, and a middle thermometer(MT) is installed on the run-out table, the method comprises the steps of setting target temperatures of FDT, MT and CT of the cooling system respectively (S102); actually measuring temperatures of FDT, MT and CT respectively in a certain period of cycle (S103); calculating averages of the actually measured temperatures respectively after finishing rolling (S105); obtaining a front learning coefficient in the section between FDT and MT using the calculated averages of the actually measured temperatures of MT and the target temperature of MT (S106); obtaining the total learning coefficient in the section between FDT and CT using the calculated actually measured temperatures of CT and a target temperature of CT (S107); a front water injection amount using the learned front learning coefficient (S108); and determining a rear water injection amount using the water injection amount determined by the total learning coefficient and the front learning coefficient.
