PURPOSE: A blast furnace operating method is provided to remove scab by melting the scab that is stuck to the lower part of a blast furnace by the formation of slag phase having high melting point due to decrease of slag amount and increase of pulverized coal injection amount using slag having low melting point. CONSTITUTION: In a blast furnace operation alternately charging ore and coke into a blast furnace through a chute of the upper part of the blast furnace, the blast furnace operating method for removing scab in the lower part of a blast furnace comprises the process of charging an acidic charging material instead of small grain ore charging materials charged into the furnace wall part into the wall part of the blast furnace so as to melt the scab at a low temperature, thereby removing the scab in the lower part of the blast furnace, wherein the acidic charging material is acidic pellet, silica, or a mixture thereof having a basicity of 0.3 or less, and the acidic charging material is continuously charged into the furnace wall part for 5 charges or more.
