PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for generating an extremely low-concentration gas. SOLUTION: A sample is introduced into a small vessel provided with a capillary. The sample-introduced small vessel is put in a thermostatic bath. The sample in the small vessel is vaporized by introducing a diluting gas heated while passing through a heat exchanging circuit into the vicinity of the sample to obtain the gas containing the prescribed low-concentration vapor of the sample. A substance of a solid state at normal temperature or a high-boiling point substance of a liquid state can be used as the sample. When the sample is the substance of a solid state, the substance is dissolved in a solvent, which is then introduced into the small vessel. After that, the solvent is volatilized and removed by heating to form a thin film of the substance on the inner wall of the small vessel, which serves as the sample.
