Polymer gel electrolyte systems

Disclosed is a polymer gel electrolyte system for use in an electrochemical cell, the system that includes a support structure comprising an aromatic polyether polymer film; and an electrolyte comprising an alkali metal salt in an organic solvent impregnated within said support structure. Advantageously, the system has an electrical conductivity from about 10-2 to about 10-3 OMEGAcm-1 at about -30° C. to room temperature.
