PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel which can raise inert gas purity in the discharge space while maintaining high production efficiency and high shape precision, and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: A porous layer 6 is formed on the surface of ribs 2 which are formed to segment the discharge space on a substrate 1 into discharge cells. Since the porous layers 6 have a structure more porous than the ribs 2, they absorb more moisture or carbon dioxide than the ribs 2, and do not release impurity gas which the porous layers 6 have once absorbed. As a result, the purity of the inert gas in the plasma display panel is improved as compared with the purity of the inert gas in conventional plasma display panel which does not have porous layers 6.
