The flue gas treatment system (1) has a flue gas desulphurization plant (2) which is connected with flue gas cooler (3) through flue gas pipe connections (5,6). A heat exchanger and a cooling tower (16) are arranged in a cooling water circuit (15). The cooling water circuit is connected with the flue gas desulphurization plant through line connections (26,27). The cooling water obtained from the cooling water circuit is supplied into the water reservoir (23). An independent claim is included for method for treating flue gas.
